Sick Babies!

Many of the babies at the orphanage are sick right now. Many have malaria and some are in critical condition. Please pray for complete healing for all the babies at the orphanage. They are under attack right now. Here are a couple of stories...

Baby Irene

This is baby Irene who I got to hold during my last visit to the orphanage in December. She had just arrived 10 days before.
She was 7 months old when she arrived and only weighed about 4 pounds. She was very malnurished. Her mom was dead and the dad was out of the picture. Her grandparents decided to let the orphanage take care of her if promised that they could get her back someday. They lived about an hour away and would come to visit her as often as possible. I just found out that she died last week. She had a seizure and died on the way to the hospital. She was 10 months old. The Mozambican staff that went to tell the family had to run away shortly after telling the family because they were so angry. The hospital "lost" her body and paperwork for about 4 hours last Saturday causing the family more anger towards the orphanage. None of the staff at the orphanage could go to the funeral last Sunday because it was not safe for them because the family blamed them.(Even though the orphanage had nothing to do with the cause of her death).

Thabo

Some of you may remember little Thabo. He is recovering from malaria and is not doing well. He was already trying to overcome so much and getting malaria did not help things. Please keep him in your prayers as well!

  2. Wow- I cannot believe the news about baby Irene! How crazy that you were just holding her a few months ago. So nuts about the family too. I had dinner with Judith and the missionary from Iris who lives with the young boys (I can't remember her name right now and it's killing me!) but she was telling us how so many of her boys are getting malaria:( Lisa got malaria really bad a few weeks ago but now she's fine.

I must echo your friend Laura's comment and say that I absolutely LOVE the new blog! Did you take all those pictures on top? You are so artsy:)

    Miss you!!!
