My Gingerbread Boys
Today I made gingerbread man cookies with my class. I have never made them before but I thought it would be fun to do with my boys. I only have 5 kids this week since my only girl went to Nigeria for the holidays...so it has been me & the boys! Making the cookies was no easy feat...first I had to track down the ingredients. I had a hard time finding molasses but thankfully Luke's mom had some extra! I brought all the ingredients, bowls, measuring cups, spoons, etc to school so my kids could help with the whole process! EEISH! (as George would say). They were so excited about the cookies (and the fact that Christmas is a few days away)! We have count down chains in class so they can see how far away it is! Anyways...most of you know I don't really cook but I found an "easy" recipe online so I figured I could do it. I wore all black today so I had flour all over me, whoops! Need an apron :) I kept asking the art teacher (Bev) if I was doing it right. The dough was so dark and the kids thought it looked gross...and well, it did! I was worried, but Bev said it looked right. After letting it chill for about an hour I baked them while my kids were at recess. After watching the Charlie Brown Christmas show we decorated them! I even made the icing myself. It was a big stepping stone for me & my cooking abilities. I even started the gas oven without help & nothing caught on fire! It's amazing how many 'homemaking' skills I have picked up since being here. The cookies turned out really cute and looked good... but I'm not sure about taste. I had a tiny bite ( I don't even like gingerbread cookies) so I don't really know. Oh well...the kids had a blast and hopefully they will remember our day together!

just caught up...i am strange like that, go in and out of the "blogging world"...anyway one, you are such a great teacher, two you are such a great, sweet sister (hope kesley and kailyn have that same relationship) and three baby elena breaks my heart. reading that reminding me of how many people are not as fortunate to have families and loved ones. So hard at this time of year to realize. I know this must be a constant reminder for you over there. sometimes I get so upset w/ myself if I don't count my blessings EVERYDAY...we live in this little box of health, family and the idea of someone living literally in shacks and off of the streets is not a "OK" or "present" thing. thanks again for your obediance to the Lord!!! God is Good! love ya and miss ya!

ReplyDeleteThey turned out soooo cute!!! I wish I was there to taste them:) I loved the picture of Luke stuffing his face with the cookie dripping in frosting. I must say I am very impressed by you, Susie home-maker. That oven scared me- I'm glad you figured it out. Oh and I nightmare about Bev and Becca last night! It was bizarre!
