When I was in Mozambique I learned of an orphanage located down the road from the one I always visited. I heard horrible things about this center. The kids were not treated good and were in terrible health conditions. A friend of mine had volunteered there once and had to leave because the conditions were so bad. She remembered the kids being bathed with dirty mop-water. They would hose them down and dump the dirty water on them. That was just one example. You can only imagine.
Below is a letter from the Directors at the Zimpeto Orphanage in Maputo, Mozambique concerning the fate of this horrible other center:

You know that our "calling" to Mozambique began in Toronto, Canada
in 1995-96 where we were impacted by TACF church and their teaching
on "grace and mercy" & the message of "mercy triumphs over justice".
It was also here that Heidi and Rolland Baker were reignited in their
call to the poor in Mozambique.
Well here below is a great testimony (I think).
Ros and I have written several times about a Children's centre here in
Maputo where the children suffered from lack of care; sickness,
malnutrition, lack of hygiene & love. Many before us have protested,
written to Social Welfare, Health department, newspapers and the
media, contacted UNICEF, etc -all to no avail -except to be banned
from entry.
In 2006 when Ros heard of this centre she committed to visiting each
week with others to bless the kids by taking fruit, clothes, medical supplies, games, cleaning teams, etc.
Ros made no fuss or judgement -
just cried most days on her return.
just cried most days on her return.
She would not speak publically or send photos of malnourished kids -just continued to pour out love.
In 2007 we were able to help bring 8 of the sickest children here & most are now happy & healthy little gems!!
I received a visit from the new director on December 23 -what an
amazing Christmas gift -thanking us for all of our help, love, & lack
of judgement from us.
He was very appreciative of the love & care Ros and others had given the children in his centre.
He came to apologize and to ask for help. We talked and prayed.

This last week Ros and our social welfare team went down and brought 16 new
children into our base here at Zimpeto.

Under the new director their centre is being re-established as a
facility for physically and mentally challenged children and adults.
God is the big winner -as are those kids who were suffering -His ways
are not ours!!!
